Does DayTally really work completely offline?
Yes. On Android the app ships without the INTERNET permission, and the iPhone app contains no networking code, so neither can reach a network on its own. Everything — counting, scanning, reports, maps — happens on your device.
Who can see my data?
Only you. There is no account and no server. Your entries live in the app's private storage, which other apps cannot read. They leave the device only in a backup or an export that you create yourself — and, on iPhone, in your iPhone's own backup.
What happens if I lose my phone?
Without a backup, the data is gone — that is the honest consequence of holding no copy of it. Create an encrypted backup and keep it somewhere you control; restoring it on a new device brings everything back.
Can I forget my backup passphrase?
Please do not. Backups are encrypted with AES-256-GCM using your passphrase, and we hold no key. There is no recovery path, by design.
How are planned trips handled?
They are marked as planned, kept apart from what actually happened, and shown as a forecast so you can see what a trip would do to a count before you book it.
Does DayTally replace my tax advisor?
No, and it does not try to. DayTally documents your days and hands you a clean report; the assessment of what those days mean for your tax situation belongs to a professional. You can see exactly what that report looks like further up this page. Report
What does Pro cost and how do I cancel?
4,99 € per month, 29,99 € per year, or 79,99 € once for lifetime access, with a 7-day free trial on the yearly plan. You buy Pro in the store you installed the app from, and it unlocks the app on that platform only. You can cancel at any time: on Android in Google Play, on iPhone under Settings › your name › Subscriptions.
How do refunds work?
Through the store you paid in, under its refund policy: Google Play on Android, Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com on iPhone. We never see your payment details, so the store is both the fastest and the only route.
Which languages does the app speak?
Twelve: German, English, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), Dutch, Polish, Russian, Turkish, Arabic and Simplified Chinese.
Is there an iPhone version?
It is coming soon to the App Store. We are not promising a date, because a date we might miss is worth less than none. The first iPhone version brings the counting, the calendar and timeline, country rules with warnings, the boarding-pass scan, the PDF report with the tax-advisor package, CSV and encrypted backups. Statistics, the widget, automatic backups, the app lock, the audit report, visas, automatic country detection, the Google Timeline import and the travel-year story are on Android only.
Can I get my data out again?
Always. CSV exports for countries, days, trips and accommodations, plus the PDF report and the tax-advisor ZIP. It is your record, in formats you can open without us.
Does the app need my location?
On Android, only if you switch on automatic country detection, and only coarsely. It is resolved on the device against bundled map data — nothing is looked up online, because nothing can be. The iPhone app does not use your location at all.
